To me it’s interesting how I celebrate Lucia every year and I don’t know where the tradition is from originally. To test my fellow Swedish people I asked a couple of them why they believe we celebrate Lucia and the responses I got was as follow.
Emma, 20 years old: “I think we celebrate Lucia because we are celebrating some saint who died a long time ago. Presumably this was an important or great saint because we celebrate it.”
Kenneth, 65 years old: “I believe we celebrate Lucia because some saint was killed. There is something religiously about it all. It began in Italy, I think.”
Albin, 25 years old: ”It has something to do with a saint. More than that I don’t know.”
